Released in 2004 as part of the Transformers: Energon "Combat Class" (Deluxe scale), Downshift is a stoic Autobot soldier known for his dedication to the cause. While named Downshift in the West, the figure was designed as a deliberate visual homage to the Generation 1 character Wheeljack, featuring his iconic "ear" fins and rally-car aesthetic.

• Powerlinx Gimmick: Engineered with the ability to transform into either the upper or lower half of a larger combined robot when paired with other Combat Class figures.
• Dual Missile Launchers: Equipped with two spring-loaded launchers that can be mounted on the shoulders in robot mode or the roof in vehicle mode.

Downshift is widely considered one of the best-engineered figures in the Energon line because he maintains excellent robot proportions despite the requirements of the Powerlinx combination gimmick.
