About This Figure

Background

Cog represents one of the most unique accessories in the original Transformers line, serving as a partsformer created from components of the massive Fortress Maximus playset. This small robot figure was formed by combining two of Fortress Maximus' smaller accessories, Grommet and Gasket, offering collectors an additional character from what might otherwise be considered spare parts. The figure exemplifies the creative engineering approach of the G1 era, where even minor components could be transformed into distinct characters.

Transformation

Cog doesn't transform in the traditional sense, but rather exists as a robot mode only figure assembled from the combination of Grommet and Gasket. These two accessories, which serve functional purposes within the larger Fortress Maximus playset, can be connected together to form the diminutive robot figure. The transformation process is essentially the act of combining these separate components rather than converting a single figure between different modes.

Gimmicks

As a partsformer, Cog's primary gimmick is his very existence as a combinable figure created from smaller accessories. The individual Grommet and Gasket components serve their own functions within the Fortress Maximus playset when not combined. This dual-purpose design allows the accessories to maintain their utility while also providing an additional character for play and display.

Collector Appeal

Cog holds significant appeal for completist collectors due to his unique status as a partsformer and his integral connection to the iconic Fortress Maximus. The figure is often overlooked by casual collectors, making complete examples with both Grommet and Gasket components increasingly valuable. His small size and accessory nature mean he's frequently lost or separated from the main playset, adding to his scarcity. For collectors focused on the Headmasters subline or those seeking every G1 character, Cog represents an essential but easily missed piece of Transformers history.
